The 2022 Annual Meeting of Directors

June 8, 2022

Thank you to everyone who attended the Nineteenth Annual Meeting of Directors with our honorary guest Susanne Bier. The Chairman Maurice Sweeney and the Board would like to thank the members and supporters of the Guild for their dedication to the Guild as your support and commitment fuels everything we do at the Guild.

Paddy Breatnach and Lisa Mulcahy were re-elected to the board.  The SDGI board for 2022 -2023 is; Lenny Abrahamson, Frank Berry, Paddy Breathnach, Stephen Bradley, Kate Dolan, Ciaran Donnelly, Martina Durac, Ruth Meehan, Lisa Mulcahy, Darragh O’Connell  Dearbhla Walsh, Steve Woods under the leadership of Chairman Maurice Sweeney. The Board is looking forward to working for its members over the coming year and welcome your feedback. The change to the constitution of SDGI was voted in by SDGI members to include an additional board member of SDGI.

Portrait photos will be emailed to directors directly from John Murray headshots.

Some of you have asked for more information on how to support the fund for Ukraine which is below.

A group of SDGI members have raised just under €9000 in a campaign to support filmmakers in Ukraine and Russia. The fund will close shortly and they are seeking the support of members to donate and also to amplify via social media.

All funds raised are going directly via the SDGI account to two organisations who are very well placed to help: Docudays UA to support Ukrainian filmmakers with the costs of their work documenting the war and the ICFR Ukraine Appeal  to help filmmakers who need to flee with relocation expenses (visas, flights etc to a max of €1500 per person).

The group was founded when writer-director Órla Murphy responded to a post from fellow writer-director Brian Deane, then contacted producer Brendan Culleton and directors Róisín Kearney and Irina Maldea. Together they founded ‘Filmmakers supporting Filmmakers’ with the aim of expressing solidarity and providing practical help to filmmakers in need.

A very welcome outcome of the campaign has been that several Ukrainian film-makers now in Ireland have been able to make contact and Orla will be in touch separately about an initiative to help these people find work.

Our next Annual Meeting of Directors is Friday 12 May 2023 – we hope to see you there!
