Some Highlights from Our Annual Meeting of Directors

May 15, 2024

We’d like to thank our members, friends and partners who came out in force at our Annual Meeting of Directors on Friday, 10th May 2024.

Some Highlights from Our Annual Meeting of Directors

Attendance: 74 directors joined us for the event.

Open Discussion: We had a productive open discussion on the state of the industry for directors.

Inspirational Conversation: We were privileged to experience an unforgettable and unrecorded dialogue with two Oscar winners, Chloé Zhao and Mstyslav Chernov, moderated by Kim Bartley. This magical moment allowed us to delve deeply into their creative processes, challenges, and inspirations, offering a rare and intimate glimpse into the minds of these extraordinary filmmakers.

Honorary Memberships: Chloé Zhao and Mstyslav Chernov were presented with lifetime honorary memberships of the Guild.

Tribute to Ross McDonnell: Ross Killeen created a heartfelt and powerful tribute in honor of the late director Ross McDonnell on behalf of all members. His presence is deeply missed.

ARRI ALEXA TAKE Launch: Frank Berry introduced the advanced ARRI ALEXA TAKE (more details to follow).

Exploring Reality Documentary Programme: Martina Durac spoke about the success of this year’s programme.

Industry Insights: Andy Harrower from Directors UK shared insights on the current landscape of film and TV in the UK.

RTE Drama Update: David Crean from RTE presented the state of play with RTE drama.

Professional Headshots: Photographer Steve Langan provided portrait headshots for 47 directors. ( we will email you them this week)

It was an absolute pleasure to work with you, and we look forward to continuing our collaboration in the future!

We hope to see you at our next event, “Work in Progress: Directors in Dialogue,” on the 5th of June, hosted by the Documentary Alliance.

Mark your calendars for our next Annual Meeting of Directors on Friday, 9th of May, 2025.
