SDGI Members Invitation to Exploring Reality Director Masterclasses

The Screen Directors Guild of Ireland’s documentary training programme Exploring Reality concludes for 2023 with two days of director masterclasses on the 28th and 29th of June at the Digital Hub, Thomas Street. Dublin 8

The Guild would like to invite SDGI members to the last 4 modules of the programme, which take place this week.

Ken Wardrop

Ken Studied filmmaking at the National Film School, IADT. His films have screened at many of the worlds most prestigious festivals including Sundance and Cannes. Ken’s feature, short and commercial films have been widely loved around the world. His Sundance award-winning feature debut His & Hers went on to become Ireland’s highest grossing documentary and took home several other major awards and his more recent works including Making The Grade and Mom and Me were received to critical acclaim.  Ken’s films have a way of connecting and moving audiences and shining a light on human relationships like no other.

Marc Isaacs

Marc Isaacs is a British documentary filmmaker renowned for his immersive storytelling. Isaacs grew up in the East End of London. Marc received an honorary doctorate from the University of East London for his documentary work. Marc has been a guest tutor at numerous universities and film schools in the UK and overseas including, the London Film School and the National Film and Television School. He has made many creative documentaries for the BBC and Channel 4, and has won various Grierson, Royal Television Society, and BAFTA awards.

Tim Samuels

Tim Samuels is an English documentary filmmaker, author, and broadcaster. Samuels is from Manchester and attended the University of St. Andrews, where he worked on the school newspaper, and fostered his interest in journalism. He became an investigative correspondent for the BBC and has become one of the most acclaimed journalists in the business. Tim’s presenter-led documentaries are broadcast across BBC One and BBC Two – and he is a global correspondent on the National Geographic Channel’s Explorer show. On radio, he is a regular presenter on BBC Radio 4 and the World Service; he created and hosted Men’s Hour on BBC 5 Live – and hit wellness podcast All Hail Kale.

Sinéad O’Shea

Sinéad O’Shea is a filmmaker and journalist based in Dublin, and originally from Navan. Her first feature documentary A Mother Brings her Son to be Shot premiered at the London Film Festival and CPH:DOX where it was nominated for a FACT Award. It was one of the most successful documentary releases in Irish cinemas of 2018. She has also directed and produced over 100 films and reports with Al Jazeera EnglishBBCChannel 4 and RTÉ. Her recent documentary Pray for Our Sinners won the Golden Starfish Award at Hamptons International Film Festival and is currently the most attended documentary in Ireland this year.
