Gemma Creagh

March 7, 2025

Dlr funded horror/comedy Conveyance is set to have its international premiere at the FrightFest Short Film Showcase in Glasgow this March.

This award winning short marks the directorial debut of writer Gemma Creagh and is the only non-UK title screening at the Showcase. Set against the backdrop of Ireland’s housing crisis, the film was produced by Maeve McGrath and Keith Bogue for Dromglen Productions.

Featuring for the first time at Glasgow, FrightFest will present its famous Short Showcase strand, which shines the spotlight on talent from the UK and Ireland, unleashing the creative imaginations of seven up-and-coming directors.

Between being constantly outbid on dilapidated houses, while living with an odd roommate with a penchant for being naked, house hunting has not been easy for young couple Brian and Suzanne. They can’t believe their luck when they finally find their dream home – and at a price that’s almost too good to be true. After moving into their brand new, sea facing South Dublin apartment, they soon discover that this idyllic spot isn’t quite what it seems.

When objects start moving of their own accord, Brian begins to suspect Apartment 19 in the Seaview complex is haunted and even calls in spiritual assistance (much to Suzanne’s irritation). As tensions escalate between the couple, and as their living situation becomes borderline dangerous, Suzanne and Brian must face an impossible dilemma. How much are they willing to put up with to keep their dream home?

“Although the spooky moments were mostly forged in my imagination, there are elements borrowed from my own life in the depiction of Brian and Suzanne’s relationship,” comments Director Gemma Creagh, “This is the story of one couple who are struggling to communicate as they take this massive step in their relationship. As their dream home turns into a living nightmare they must learn to work together or face losing everything.”

After the film premiered at Galway Film Fleadh last summer, Conveyance went on to screen at Kerry International Film Festival, IndieCork and Bleeding Pig Festival. Thanks to the bold visuals of DOP Jaro Waldeck (Dreamland/Housewife of the Year) Conveyance won Best Cinematography at Monzo Film Festival and is set for its US Premiere in LA later in March.

Funded by dlr’s First Frames Scheme and supported by Creative Ireland and First Element, Conveyance is a timely narrative that reflects the struggles many face in today’s housing market, all wrapped in tension and humour.

One of only seven shorts in the entire festival, Conveyance will screen at the FrightFest Showcase in Glasgow Film Festival on 8th March 2025 at 1pm in Glasgow Film Theatre.

FrightFest Passes are £88. Individual Films are available to book on the GFT website: https://www.glasgowfilm.org/checkout/showing/frightfest-short-showcase/263919
