Alan Bradley

July 4, 2024

Alan Bradley won a Gold Award at the YDA Young Director’s Awards ceremony in Cannes for his documentary Patrick: A Young Traveller Lost.

The Young Director Award (YDA) supports and promotes debuting, international creative talent in commercial film production, and is the only award exclusively-dedicated to up-and-coming, young filmmakers.

Patrick: A Young Traveller Lost shines a light on the urgent and sensitive issue of the alarmingly high suicide rates among the Irish Traveller community through the harrowing, deeply personal story of 12-year-old Patrick McDonagh.

“I am deeply honoured to receive the award and to be acknowledged alongside such a high calibre of international talent,” says Bradley. “The passing of Patrick had a profound impact on the Traveller community, and my aspiration was for the documentary to serve as a platform for their voices to be heard. I am delighted that the work has connected with the international jury members.”

Patrick: A Young Traveller Lost is available to watch on the RTÉ player.
