Paul J. Bolger is an award-winning artist, animator, designer, writer, producer and director. Paul began his film career in the late 1980’s at Sullivan Bluth Studios on animated movies such as ‘The Land Before Time’ and ‘All Dogs Go to Heaven’. He then went onto work internationally as a lead animator on Richard Williams’s classic ‘The Thief and the Cobbler’ and Ralph Bakshi’s ‘Cool World’ before opening one of the first Irish animation studios, Dagda Film, in 1993.

His directing credits include the animated feature ‘Happily N’Ever After’ and the shorts ‘Gardens’, ‘Hamster Heaven’ and ‘Coffee & Cream’ along with the live action shorts ‘Comb’ and ‘Angus’, the Waterford Medieval Museum documentaries ‘Heavens’ Embroidered Cloths’ and ‘The Great Charter Roll’, along with several music promos for the likes of ‘Preachers Son’, ‘Friends of Emmet’, his own music and more.

He has storyboarded the movies ‘Arthur Christmas’ and ‘Shaun The Sheep’, among others for Aardman Animation. His epic graphic novel ‘Hound’ reimagines Cú Chulainn and will be published by Dark Horse Books in March 2022.

Paul also paints and has exhibited at Imagine before with Sound Out, a show of portraits of local musicians along with other exhibitions at home and abroad. He is a well-respected songwriter and released a self-titled album in 2020, with a follow up record coming soon.

Paul’s most recent film role was Production Designer on the ‘Riverdance’ animated feature film. He currently has a number of features, series and publishing projects in development with his associates via his company PillarStone Productions.
