A graduate of RADA, London, with a BA in Acting from Ballyfermot Film School, Dublin, with a Diploma in Film Production, Mo has made several award-winning shorts and an award-winning feature film. Her next short in 2022 is Kerry funded, ‘Haven’.

Mo (or ‘Maureen’) O’Connell is a filmmaker and actor from Dublin, Ireland. She is a graduate of RADA (Royal Academy of Dramatic Art), London, with a BA in Acting from Ballyfermot Film School, Dublin, with a Diploma in Film Production. She has made several no-budget award-winning short films & a multi-award-winning no-budget slacker comedy feature film called ‘Spa Weekend’.

Screen Ireland commissioned Mo to direct the short film ‘Hum’ written by Ivan Cush. ‘Hum’ has played at the Cork Film Festival, Dublin Film Festival and Fastnet Film Festival, while also winning the audience award at the Emerging Lens Film Festival in Canada. It is still on its festival circuit & is nominated by Makers & Shakers in London for “Outstanding Creative Use of a Location”. The winner will be announced in December 2021.

She is co-writing a feature length version of her short film ‘Girls’ with co-writer, Gemma Creagh with Screen Ireland via the Spotlight Scheme. She recently won a commission from the Kildare Film Fund to produce Katie McNeice’s short film, ‘Lambing’. They wrapped this shoot on Oct 22nd 2021. She has also just wrapped, as of November 5th 2021, directing ‘Haven’ which was funded by Screen Kerry.

Mo is the founding member of the production company 3 Hot Whiskeys, which executive produced ‘Lambing’ & ‘Haven’. She is currently being mentored by Emma Norton of Element Pictures & Michael Zam of ‘Breaking Bad’. Mo is the Festival Director of Dublin International Comedy Film Festival. It will enter its 2nd year in December 2021.
