Mark Noonan is an award-winning Irish screenwriter and film director.
His debut feature, “You’re Ugly Too” (2015), supported by Screen Ireland, premiered at the 65th Berlinale where it was nominated for both the Crystal Bear and Best Debut Feature awards. The film went on to receive a European Film Academy nomination and screened at over one hundred international festivals, winning the Directors Guild of America Finders Series Award in Los Angeles, Best Screenplay prizes in Tokyo and Athens, Best Feature Screenplay from the Writers’ Guild of Ireland, Best Debut Feature at the Galway Film Fleadh, and Best Breakthrough Feature in Boston.
His feature documentary, “Kevin Roche: The Quiet Architect” (2017), was screened in the architecture section of the Venice Biennale, released in cinemas across Ireland, and acquired for distribution in North America by Kino Lorber and Salzgeber in Germany.
An alumnus of Berlinale Talents, the Toronto International Film Festival Talent Lab, and Le Groupe Ouest’s Less is More programme in France, Mark has held artistic residencies at the Centre Culturel Irlandais (Paris), the NIPKOW/Berlinale Programme (Berlin), Pustnik (Romania), and the Cité Internationale des Arts (Paris).
Mark completed a Screen Ireland mentorship with acclaimed TV writer Peter McKenna in 2022, which led to him leading a writersroom in 2023 for the TV series “When They All Vanish” (Wildcat Pictures / Creative Europe).
He was selected for the BBC Writersroom in 2023 and was recently chosen for Screen Ireland’s 2026 “The Voice” director development scheme. He is currently in development on a number of film and TV projects with support from Screen Ireland, Creative Europe, RTÉ, The Italian Ministry of Culture and Offaly Country Council.
