Belfast born Maeve Murphy’s feature film, “Silent Grace”, was placed at no 38 in the 2020 Irish Times list of the “50 Greatest Irish Films Ever Made”.

She is the writer- director of three acclaimed feature films, all of which have been screened at several international film festivals. She wrote- directed Sushi which won an International Short Film Award at the Venice Film Festival 2011 and St Pancras Sunrise Short winner of 10 International Short Film awards 2024/2025  executive produced by Jim Sheridan.

“Silent Grace” was selected to represent the UK for Cannes, starring Orla Brady was nominated for The Conflict and Resolution Award at the Hamptons Film Festival  and later won the Soka Art Award. Her short film “Sushi” won The Sub-ti and Venice Days International short film award at the Venice Film Festival. She was the recipient of Best Film at the London Independent Film Festival for “Beyond The Fire” starring Cara Seymour which after its theatrical was broadcast on BBC and TV3 after press controversy. Taking Stock starring Kelly Brook won the Bud Abbott award for feature comedy at Garden State film Festival for “Taking Stock” which was released in the Uk by Swipe and became a Netflix “popular” front page hit.

Maeve won the President’s Award at the Sochi Film Festival for her short film Siobhan. Her novella, “Christmas at the Cross” serialised in The Irish Times is in late development with Screen Ireland and NIS as the feature film of “St Pancras Sunrise”. Maeve is writer-director. Jim Sheridan is executive producer. Fiona Kinsella is the producer for Tile Media. St Pancras Sunrise short film starring Emma Eliza Regan is also a proof of concept for the feature has won 8 awards internationally and Maeve was long listed Best Director at the British Short Film Awards and nominated Best Director at the European Short Film Awards.

Siobhan, St Pancras Sunrise and The Wolf were brought together in the feminist triptych “The Geography of Violence” a cumulative 30 minute work about violence against women. The European Premiere was at La Femme Film Festival Europe, Hungary  in June 2026. The Wolf the final segment had its Irish premiere at the Fastnet Film Festival and Maeve was short listed for the Jack Gold Prize for Best Direction and Kellie Shirley ( writ/co star) was nominated for Best Actor. A clip was broadcast on Channel 4’s Sunday Brunch. “The Geography of Violence” was highly praised and discussed extensively in Film Ireland.
