Ken Mac Giolla Phádraig is an award-winning director and the founder of Fód Films. He spent much of his career at RTÉ, where he developed his approach to documentary filmmaking before leaving to establish his own production company.

His work includes the RTS Ireland award-winning Secrets from the Dancefloor, Laura Brennan: This Is Me and Back to Barrytown, a three-part series in which Colm Meaney explores the world of Roddy Doyle’s Barrytown novels. He is particularly drawn to character-led stories and people whose lives reveal something about the wider world around them.

His films are built around trust, access and spending real time with people. He wants audiences to feel that they have been allowed into someone’s life, rather than simply told about it.

Through Fód Films, Ken is developing a slate of feature documentaries and ambitious factual projects for Irish and international audiences. He is interested in stories with emotional depth, strong characters and the potential to travel far beyond where they begin.
