Joel Simon is originally from Belgium where he studied fine arts at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Liege. He later studied design in England, where he discovered the joys of claymation. This experience turned into a real passion for animation, as he spent his first two years in Belfast working on Ciderpunks, a 10 minute mockumentary which won awards at animation festivals around the world.

In 2003 he established Flickerpix Animations Ltd. Joel directed children’s Series Buska Barney for UTV; the comedy Series On The Air, based on real, idiosyncratic radio phone ins for BBC Northern Ireland, various TV commericals and more shorts like the Bombay based Horn OK Please which has won 15 International awards to date.

In 2008 he directed the 15 part BBC Series Days Like This, which brought to life ordinary people’s personal testimonies of an extraordinary day in their lives. In 2009 he directed Wee Wise Words for BBC.
