Gerard Barrett is an IFTA-winning Irish writer and director known for emotionally grounded, character-driven storytelling.

He wrote and directed the critically acclaimed feature Pilgrim Hill, which premiered at the Galway Film Fleadh and went on to screen internationally, including at Telluride, where it won the Great Expectations Award. Gerard also received the IFTA Rising Star Award for his work on the film.

He followed this with Glassland, starring Jack Reynor, Toni Collette and Will Poulter, which had its world premiere at Sundance, won a Special Jury Award, and also won Best Film at both the Galway Film Fleadh and the Dublin Film Festival.

Gerard later wrote and directed Brain on Fire, a Netflix original film produced by Charlize Theron, starring Chloë Grace Moretz, Richard Armitage, Carrie-Anne Moss, Thomas Mann, Jenny Slate and Tyler Perry. The film had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.

He also created and directed the critically acclaimed IFTA-winning miniseries Smalltown, starring Pat Shortt which screened globally.
