Colm Quinn is a writer/director of film and television based in Dublin.
He began by making short dramas, including The Discreet Charms of the Refugee (2007), commissioned by Berlinale Talents, which received a special mention at the Cork Film Festival. He also made Joy (2011) with Sundance and BAFTA-winning Venom Films, which received a special mention at the Galway Film Fleadh and screened in competition at SXSW.
His early short documentary work includes No Regrets in the West (2007), which was nominated for an IFTA and selected for the Edinburgh International Film Festival, and Needle Exchange (2011), which won at the Galway Film Fleadh.
Following a world premiere at Hot Docs in Toronto, his first feature, Mattress Men (2016), won Best Feature Documentary at the Irish Film and Television Awards in 2017. The same year, Baring Arms (2016), was nominated for an IFTA in the short film category.
He then co-directed the series Murder at the Cottage: The Search for Justice for Sophie (2021) with six-time Oscar nominee Jim Sheridan for Sky, followed by the “Charlie Bird Trilogy,” inspired by the life, work and legacy of the famed journalist. These include Charlie Bird: Loud and Clear (2022), Ransom ’79 (2024), and A Day in May (2025). Ransom ’79 won Best Single Factual at the RTS Ireland Awards, while A Day in May screens on RTÉ in summer 2026.
