Teresa Lavina is a Spanish filmmaker based in Galway, Ireland. Her work focuses on themes of human rights and social justice with a particular focus on under-represented groups such as the travelling community, victims of child abuse and people with disabilities.
Her work has been screened both in Ireland- her latest film ‘Untold Secrets’ closed the 2021 Galway Film Fleadh- and internationally, where she has won awards at the Toronto International Film Festival (Best Human Rights Film), Vancouver Independent Film Festival (Best Social Justice Film) and the L.A. Independent Film Festival (Best Director and Best Short Documentary 2019) and the Dublin Underground Film Awards (Best Documentary 2019). She has had a recent nomination at Seminci – Valladolid for Best Documentary in the Time and History Section. Her work has been funded by The Arts Office and Creative Ireland as well as receiving development feature funding from Screen Ireland. She is also the co-creator and co-director of ‘Shot By The Sea’ Film Festival in Galway, funded by Galway 2020.
